There are many other resources available for families facing the challenge of Alzheimers diease & dementia. They be valuable sources of information, they may provide support groups in your area, they may provide in-home care, or they may be a live-in facility.
We have included contact information for some of these organizations here, but feel free to call any of our sites if you need additional help in determining which service best fits your needs.
Alzheimers Association
The Alzheimers Association is a national research-based organization. They are a great resource for information about Alzheimers disease. They also provide support groups (some in conjunction with ASEB), and they may be a good choice for families outside of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Alzheimers Association has offices all over the country. You can find a local office on their we site. Or you can cal their 800 number to be directed to a local office.
The Center for Elders Independence program is specially designed to offer an alternative to those elders who prefer to remain in their own home, but whose medical problems make it impossible for them to live at home without assistance from doctors, nurses, social workers, and other caregivers.
AgeSong "breaks away from the traditional treatment model of care, choosing instead to help create communities that support the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of elders." They offer a variety of services, including residential care.
