ASEB Bus The following is an update from Ken Karasinski on a bus donated by ASEB to the Children of the Hogar Guirola orphanage in El Salvador.

“I want to report that the progress in delivering our wheelchair accessible bus that is being donated to the Children of the Hogar Guirola orphanage in El Salvador with its 80 + handicapped children ages 6 months to 18 years old is well under way! There is a link at the end of this message that shares the story of how this project came about.

The bus, originally donated to Nor-Cal Mobility by Micheal Pope of Alzheimer’s Services of the East Bay has undergone a complete tune-up, has had the interior upfitted to include 6 wheelchair tie-down positions and 2 two-passenger flip-up seats. Nor-Cal Mobility has installed a Ricon commercial-grade wheelchair lift, the bus is in great condition and ready to go into service at the orphanage!

We have also received many incredible donations of pediatric wheelchairs, a hospital bed and other much-needed supplies and equipment to fill the empty space of the bus from Janice Walker of Project S.A.V.E. and Courtney Casey from The Arc of Butte County. We would also like to thank Pat Burns of Concern for Children and Francisco Moran of ISNA for their help coordinating our project in El Salvador. We would like to thank the many people who sent financial contributions to help with the project.

The bus & cargo are ready for their trip and with the help of Gabriel Cunich, owner of Inter Global Logistics , Hayward Ca., the journey to Acajutla, El Salvador should be smooth sailing. Below is a picture of the Dexter commercial washing machine that we managed to snag at the last possible moment, with the hope that we can provide the wonderful people at the Hogar Guirola with some relief from doing laundry for 80 + children.

We would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in getting this bus to its destination in El Salvador. There is no way we could have done this alone, and it is only through the kindness and generosity of countless people that we have managed to make it this far.
